THE PATHFINDER RIDES

PRESS RELEASE 16TH FEBRUARY 2022

More than a sportive - an adventure... on a bike...

The Pathfinder  Rides.
More than a sportive - an adventure... on a bike.
The Pathfinder Rides is an event supporting and endorsed by The International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln.

It is not a sportive because you can start from wherever you want and cycle for as long or as short a journey as you wish.

It is an adventure, an unusual and exciting experience, an opportunity for recognition, remembrance and reconciliation by cyclists of all ages and abilities.

The Pathfinder Rides will take place in July 2022, culminating in a Grand Arrival at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln over the weekend of 23rd and 24th July 2022, when the IBCC will open itself up to the Lincolnshire, UK and International Cycling Communities.

SO, WHAT EXACTLY ARE THE PATHFINDER RIDES?

It's simple:
1 - For your start point, choose a location significant to Bomber Command.
2 - You register online.
3 - You get on your bike and blog your ride from your start point to the IBCC, ensuring that you arrive during the weekend of 23rd and 24th July 2022.

Where you start from and how long it takes you is YOUR decision, and this is the beauty of this event.

How do you sign up, and how much does it cost?

Just £20 per rider or £45 for a family. All profits go to the International Bomber Command Centre. SIGN UP Online Direct via the IBCC WEB SITE / Events Or via our website - pathfinderrides.cc/taking-part/

Thousands of locations significant to Bomber Command exist all over the UK and Europe. The irony is that you may well be reading this just a few miles from such a place right now - and you never knew it existed.

Riders choosing their own start point discover a little about the history of the sacrifice of those young men and women. In so doing, it is the riders choice as to how far and for how long they will ride, so it really is a cycling event for everyone:

For YOUNG FAMILIES, it could be just a few miles and the opportunity for a bit of exercise on a bike. A pleasant weekend excursion on the first days of the school summer holidays.

For INDIVIDUAL CYCLISTS, it could be an excuse for a pleasant ride with an objective or perhaps an overnight stay in the historic city of Lincoln. Not just another roadside coffee and cake (although there will be coffee and cake). The Pathfinder rides will offer your post-ride treat in the company of hundreds of like-minded people supporting a memorial to the heroes of yesterday.

For CLUB CYCLISTS, it's the opportunity for a weekend club ride with a difference, perhaps over two days? But either way, it's a ride focussing the efforts and thoughts of your team on the teams of 80 years ago who made the ultimate sacrifice.

For the BIKE PACKERS, their ride could take days or weeks to complete, starting in the early days of July in the far-flung reaches of the United Kingdom or Europe.

The Grand Arrival has been made possible by our sponsors:

We're just like you - we're riders. We love cycling and we want you to enjoy it just as much as we do.

Notes to the Editor

... last but not least.

NOTES TO EDITOR.

T1 - Who are we?
We are a small group who want to help the International Bomber Command Centre.
We were inspired when we read how much the pandemic had hurt the IBCC. That coupled with my (Martin Baker) previous experience raising funds for the IBCC - Click here for details - and we decided to see if we could open the centre up to a whole new demographic of visitor.
We believe that what they do is vitally important, ensuring that future generations never forget the sacrifices made by the men and women of Bomber Command.
Consequently, we are creating an annual event where cyclists from near to far, young to old, and novice to expert can come together from all four corners of the UK and Europe and maybe even beyond in the act of recognition, remembrance and reconciliation.
